FREE Course Places worth £500 for Commoners and those Working on Commons

Upland Farming for Net Zero

Course starting on Monday 9th September 2024, Cumbria

As part of the University of Cumbria upland faming short courses and in partnership with the Farm Carbon Toolkit, Upland Farming for Net Zero will be delivered as a part-time course across 6 weeks via a series of 1-hour online evening sessions, two half day farm visits and two in-person workshops at the University of Cumbria’s Ambleside campus. The course sessions will take place on weekdays between the 9th September and 10th October. This is followed by further time for independent work to complete an assessed task.

Thanks for funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Foundation for Common Land and Our Upland Commons project is pleased to announce that we are offering 12 fully funded places to the value of £500 each on this course.

Bursary places are available to:

  • Common rights holders

  • Anyone working on a farm with common rights, including family members

  • Commons owners, including private owners

  • An employee of an organisation owning or working on common land

To secure your bursary place on the course, you will be asked to pay an attendance deposit which is refundable if you attend 80% of the course. There is no geographical boundary to those wishing to avail of the bursary however, it should be noted that some of the sessions will take place at the University of Cumbria’s Ambleside campus and on sites within the Lake District.
