Our Training Offer
Foundation for Common Land offers a range of training courses, workshops and services for professional organisations, individuals, farmers and commoners.
Practical Courses for Conservation Professionals
Hands-on training to deepen your teams understanding of commoning and collaborative land management
Our immersive 1- or 2-day courses in Upland Hill Farming or Lowland Commoning Systems are specially designed for conservation professionals who work closely with commoners.
Held on a working farm, these courses combine informative workshops with practical, on-the-ground activities led by experienced farmers. You’ll gain first-hand insight into:
Livestock farming systems and seasonal management cycles
Common land management principles and practices
Farm economics and the financial realities shaping decision-making
The challenges and opportunities in collaborative conservation work
By blending theory with real-world application, we ensure your team leaves with practical knowledge they can use immediately in their role.
Our training has already helped teams within Natural England, Defra, RPA, RSPB, Wildlife Trusts, National Park Authorities, and other leading conservation NGOs build stronger working relationships with commoners and improve land management outcomes.
Take your understanding beyond the desk—experience commoning where it happens.
“It just made that connection. You can read things in a book, be told about them or learn them, but actually having that hands-on experience and doing it yourself just makes the realisation and the connection happen.”
