Foundation for Common Land offers a range of training courses, workshops and services for professional organisations, individuals, farmers and commoners.
Practical Courses for Conservation Professionals
These practical 2-day courses in Upland Hill Farming or Lowland Commoning Systems are designed for professionals working closely with commoners.
Based on a working farm with a mix of informative workshops and practical activities led by the farmer, these courses give a great insight into commoning and topics relevant to collaborative working, including livestock farming systems, common land management and farm economics.
Our courses have been delivered to teams within Natural England, Defra, RPA, RSPB, Wildlife Trusts, National Park staff and other conservation NGOs.

Common Land Masterclass
Either online or in person, this half-day of interactive and informative discussions and activities is designed for professionals as an introduction to common land, management and working on commons. Course topics can be tailored to focus on specific areas of interest.
Webinars and Talks
Our webinars and talks cover issues pertinent to commons rights holders and people interested in commons. They cover various topics from farm economics, payment schemes, and commons agreements to TB testing, common land legislation and governance.
These can be delivered online or in person, and we’ll work with you to create a session that meets the needs of your group.
SFI Moorland Digital Surveying App
Designed for commoners to aid in the data collection required for the SFI Action MOR1.
This service is open to anyone who needs it and is available for use on both common and non-common land.
The App works with or without a mobile signal, helps to identify public goods and is RPA compliant.
