Joanna joins the team to lead our Defra ELMS Test & Trial on Commons

The Foundation for Common Land is delighted to welcome Joanna Swiers to the team. Joanna will lead our Defra Environmental Land Management Test and Trial on Common Land. With roots in a Yorkshire farming family and trained in Agricultural Economics Joanna has worked with both the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park Authorities.

The Test & Trial on Common Land will explore how the new Environmental Land Management Scheme can be successfully delivered on Commons across England. We will be working with eight areas across England both upland and lowland areas. The work will include a Commons Health Assessment, how to optimise both public benefits and provisioning services from Commons and absolutely key is the Governance of stewardship agreement on Commons. This will include negotiating the split of payments and documenting governance arrangements for schemes.

The Foundation for Common Land is delighted to be working with the Federation of Cumbria Commoners to deliver this project.
