Farm Business Opportunities Course
Course starting on Monday 2nd June 2025, North Yorkshire
This Farm Business Opportunities course is designed to help you assess business prospects related to environmentally sustainable farming and changes in upland areas. Through visits to upland farms, you will explore diversification options and regenerative farming practices.
You will also develop financial analysis skills and learn about funding opportunities for public goods on upland farms. Additionally, you will evaluate the financial impact of engaging in one or more Environmental Land Management (ELM) schemes.
The course will be available in North Yorkshire in June 2025. Small group sessions will be held at a workshop venue in North Yorkshire, on nearby upland farms, and online.
Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Foundation for Common Land and the Our Upland Commons project is pleased to announce that we are offering 12 fully funded places, each valued at £500, on this course.
Bursary places are available to:
Common rights holders
Anyone working on a farm with common rights, including family members
Commons owners, including private owners
An employee of an organisation working on or advising those managing common land
To secure your bursary place on the course, you will be asked to pay an attendance deposit which is refundable if you attend 80% of the course.
As part of the bursary application process, you are also required to apply to the university
In the event that your bursary application is unsuccessful, you will be under no obligation to take the place on the course.
