Download "Caring for the Commons": a Countrystride Podcast

We were delighted when Mark Richards and David Felton invited the Foundation for Common Land to join them on a walk in the Lakes to record an episode for their increasingly popular podcast ‘Countrystride’. Julia is a big fan of Mark for his hill walking books and his passion for all things Lakes and was delighted to meet David whose Lake District in 101 Maps and Infographic book brings her hours of pleasure.

On a blowy day we walked up from Newlands House up to Knott Rigg musing over the history of the Buttermere and Newlands Commons , farming systems, cultural heritage and nature recovery. We focused on how future policy changes as we leave the Common Agricultural Policy might affect what we love most about the Lakes. We even strayed into how rewilding affects the conversation.

Apparently a week after being released this is Countrystride’s most popular podcast yet - perhaps Commons are not such a niche subject! it is super easy to listen to - click here or you can find it on Spotify and other podcast services

There are many other fascinating episodes to download on the Countrystride Website
