Finding Common Cause: collaborative approaches to delivery in shared spaces.
As well as sustaining a thousand years of living cultural heritage, commons have a vital role to play in addressing biodiversity and climate crisis. But commons are complex, contested, multi-interest spaces, where typical approaches to conservation can falter.
Through the Our Upland Commons project, the Foundation for Common Land and others have been developing people-centred, collaborative approaches to unlock commons’ potential for nature recovery, flood management and carbon sequestration.
This conference brings together key voices from commoning and conservation, to look towards an uncertain future, to share and explore collective approaches to the challenges we face. The conference will help shape the future work of FCL and others working on commons, as well as giving you practical insights that will help your organisation, common or farm business.
The day will be made up of talks, panels and workshops. Here is an outline of the day:
Panel : Collaborative Approaches to Delivery on Commons: Exploring practical approaches
Panel : Common Knowledge: Exploring commoner lead and participative approaches to research and monitoring.
Panel : Commons Online: Exploring the online resources that have been developed to support environmentally and economically sustainable commoning.
Workshops
Shaping Future Work on Commons: What are the threats and opportunities for commons and commoning in your area, how can FCL and the OUC partnership work with you to address them. Help shape our future grant funded work. Critical insight – what’s the big ‘take-away message’ from Our Upland Commons? What worked and what was challenging? What are the transferrable lessons learnt? Together we’ll consider the areas identified by the evaluation that need further focus to help bring about the changes needed for Upland Commons.
Using Arts to tell the Story of Commons: this interactive arts-based workshop will help you explore how you can use arts to share your passion for commons and commoning with a wider audience.
