The 180 acres of common land in Chislehurst, South East London, have been sold in their entirety, ending more than 1,000 years of private ownership by generations of monarchs and aristocrats.

For the first time in history, the woodlands, heathlands, wetlands and grasslands are now owned by a charitable entity representative of the community.

The precious green spaces will continue to be managed and maintained by registered charity Chislehurst Commons, but the freehold is now owned by The Chislehurst Society.
